Volunteering

Throughout the year there are many opportunities to get involved in campus sustainability initiatives. In addition to helping make Acadia an even more sustainable campus, volunteering helps you gain valuable experience and build your resume.

Acadia Community Farm Volunteers (May-October)

Each season we invite students, staff and faculty to help us grow food for the Acadia dining hall and the Wolfville and area food bank. Volunteering at the farm can involve a variety of acivities in the community garden from planting, weeding, watering and harvesting to helping with educational events and outreach. Residence Eco-Reps (September-April)

Eco-rep

Volunteer Eco-Reps are elected in each residence at the beginning of the academic year. Eco-Reps help organize events and activities in their residences to help other students understand environmental services such as waste, water and energy management on campus and how they can help improve Acadia's sustainability performance. Acadia Roots & Shoots Coordinator (Sept-April)

In 2019 Acadia welcomed Dr. Jane Goodall to the campus for a special presentation, called "Inspiration in Action". In honour of her visit we planted a pollinator garden at DeWolfe House. If you are interested in biodiversity, climate change or environmental equity, contact us to learn more about being involved. SDSN Youth Hub Coordinator (May-April)

The SDG Students Program is an international initiative of SDSN Youth that aims to engage students in higher education in the global effort to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, as well as empower them with the knowledge, skills, and pathways to action to be effective agents of change today. The Sustainable Development Solutions Network Canada (SDSN) works with students to establish SDG hubs on their campus to engage other students on the SDGs. There are 16 across Canada in 2022. Committees

There are several campus committees chaired by the Acadia Sustainability Coordinator and many include student representation. Examples are the Acadia Food Advisory Committee, the Fair Trade campus Committee and Organic Campus Committee.  These committees oversee the programs on campus. Students interested in serving on one of these committees can submit an expression of interest to sustainability@acadiau.ca. Write a short paragraph about your background, interests and why you would like to be involved in the committee.
