The Acadia Tournament

Between February 6 and March 31 Acadia will compete against over 600 schools in Canada and the United States. Our Canadian competitors in the 2012 tournament include Queen's University, Mount Royal College, the University of Guelph and the University of Ottawa. The Universities of Calgary and Alberta are also entered in the Benchmark Division.  There are too many US schools to mention them all, but wouldn't it be great to beat Stanford, Harvard, Notre Dame, MIT and the United States Air Forces Academy!

tl_files/sites/aiae/resources/RecycleMania/bio waste photo.JPGAll staff, faculty and students are invited to participate in this campus-wide event to help Acadia take home the title. Departments and residences can appoint organize activities to help reduce waste and increase recycling in their facility. Acadia activities can take place at any time throughout the competition period. The type of activity is up to you. Here are some suggestions to help you get started:

  • Add new signage to your waste contaniers (here is the link http://www.rrfb.com/bin-signage.asp)
  • Purchase office supplies with less packaging
  • Confused about what goes where? Organize a waste sorting workshop (ask how we can help)
  • Implement a double-sided printing policy
  • Re-use paper
  • Refuse junk-mail (cancel unwanted subscriptions)
  • Host a zero-waste day
  • Only use reusable mugs and water bottles
  • Hold a paperless meeting/class
  • Still using stryofoam? Switch to compostable cups and plates. (Ask us where to purchase)
  • Include a waste related topic in a class lecture. Check the resources section below for a few ideas
